MEET THE
VET
Mary S. Battistella,
DVM, CVA
A
graduate
of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in
1983, Dr. Battistella started Wayside Animal Hospital in
1984 where she has been practicing primarily small
animal medicine and surgery. She also completed
certification in veterinary acupuncture in 1994. Since
then she also has completed studies in Veterinary
Chinese Herbal medicine, and is completing a
certification course in veterinary chiropractics. She
also enjoys hobbies of gardening, scuba diving, old
Volkswagons, bluegrass music (learning the stand up
bass), spending time with the family ( husband Bob, and
children Joseph and Betsy), and believes in the
philosophies of Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys &
Girls Club.

Wendy
Hathcock
Receptionist
Wendy has
been with us since 1993 and is our staff
consultant on dog training and
behavior modification. She enjoys showing dogs
and doing agility work. Talk to Wendy about
training questions. She is also an artist and
does beautiful animal portraits.

Anastacia
Marcus,
Technician
Ana has come to us from New Mexico where
she worked many years as a technician in a 24-
hour practice. We are pleased to have her here
with us now. She enjoys working on their
farm and going for long hikes with the dogs and
the family. She is also quite handy with
woodworking.

Lori
Templeton,
Technician
Lori is a technician in our practice and does
dog grooming a couple of days a week. She has a
new baby boy that has blessed her family.
(She'll be happy to show you photos!) Lori is a
great asset to our practice family.

April Swisher,
Weekend Kennel Supervisor
April is a college student and is
working toward applying to veterinary school.
She takes wonderful care of all the pets
that are staying over the weekend and does
playtime with those who would like to have that
extra special attention. She fits in very
well and we are glad to have her.

Larry has
been working with us since 1996 and is a joy to
have around. He is great with all the animals;
they love him. He gets to do playtime with the
boarders when they stay.

Groomer
Carol
actually has her own business inside our
practice. Carol is an inspiring person. She does
the best job grooming and is a great and
caring friend. She is active with the Alabama
Cattlewomen’s Association and the National
Cattlemen’s Association and also the Alexander
City Boys and Girls Club. She has two small
dogs, Heidi and Smokey Joe, that go to visit a
nursing home on a regular basis.

Receptionist
Denice
has been with us since 1989. She works at
the hospital on a part time basis now, so that
she can help her husband Lorin with his
business, Westplate Marine. We are glad that she
still works with us. She spends her spare time
baking, gardening, cooking, crafts, cooking, and
sewing. We like the cooking /baking part which
she shares with us regularly.

Sandra
has recently joined us though she has worked in
the veterinary field for several years. She
enjoys doing things with her family, vintage
vehicles, and motorcycle riding, especially in
nice weather.

Tamara
has been with our staff for over a year, but is
now training as a technician assistant. She is
always cheerful and does a great job taking care
of your sick pets. She enjoys bowling and going
to concerts in her spare time. |
